Why do I need professionals to type me? Can’t I type myself?
The enneagram reveals aspects of our personality that are often not consciously part of our self-image. Part of the reason the enneagram is so illuminating is because it opens up new levels of consciousness. The adage that “no one knows you better than you know yourself” might seem reasonably true, but it’s often the case that an objective set of eyes can see certain elements more clearly.
How do you type people accurately?
Accurate typing requires that we observe the energies behind behaviours rather than just behaviours themselves or what people consciously say about themselves.
A quotation from Michael Teachings channel Shepherd Hoodwin describes this well:
”Although certain energies tend to result in certain kinds of behaviour, they don't necessarily. We can't assume that a particular behaviour automatically indicates that the person has a particular [type] […]. In writing about these teachings, it is necessary to describe behavioural tendencies, because describing energies themselves is difficult. It is like trying to describe the flavour of vanilla—only a taste makes what it is immediately clear. The language of wine critics is often parodied, but describing how a wine tastes is a challenge.”
